I released "Schritte" as Mr. Finch. I produced it and wrote most of it with German writer Mansa Musa.
The video
In the video I walk forwards while moving backwards through the frame. We filmed the effect on a railway line, using a trolley we built ourselves.
I asked my friend Tobi Abraham, who works at a car workshop in my hometown of Welzheim, to help me weld it. I'd drawn a 3D model in SketchUp. The frame was made from steel angle profiles, with skate wheels running on top of the rails and against their sides to keep it from tipping off. Two sheets of chipboard formed the floor. On top we put a treadmill, a diesel generator to power it and a handlebar to steer with.
One of my best friends, Nico Pisano, pushed the trolley and filmed at the same time. He pushed me forwards while I walked towards him on the treadmill. That is how we got the effect. The song plays with cause and effect, past, present and future, and I like how the movement in the video does the same.
