SSIO, "TBC"

I was in Berlin for a weekend of sessions with Lativ, a singer and good friend. Around 3 AM he got a call: Xatar and SSIO were in town and needed a studio and an engineer. Lativ said we were already in a studio. They came over, we went through my beats until we found one that fit their verses, then recorded until 5 AM.

The next night Xatar asked me to engineer another session, this time at Trixx Studios. We ate döner, talked, and I showed them a bit of what I did. Around 3 AM SSIO was heading to the hotel. He had a single going to mastering the next morning and wasn't happy with the hook. He knew I could sing, so he left me the beat, with no lyrics or reference, and went to bed.

Once I heard the beat, the melody came pretty quickly. I wrote a rough hook with words I thought might fit an SSIO song. Xatar had been out of the room for a couple of minutes. When I played it back, he lost it and sent SSIO a voice memo. SSIO immediately told us to finish it.

Xatar and I rewrote the lyrics in Bonn dialect that night. I sang the hook in more or less one take and bounced it. By 5:30 AM I was on the train back to Stuttgart.
