Jumper has two halves. The platform turns idle room capacity into bookable sessions with real-time availability, booking and payment. The hardware side develops modular timber studios for repeatable factory production, with prototype interiors built and a pilot site next.

How it started

I have built studios since the one in my childhood bedroom, then rooms for friends and colleagues, one at a time. In 2023 Xatar asked for thirty of them at once, for the Goldmann Tower. One-off builds do not scale to thirty. That request became the question the whole company rests on: what if the room were a product, repeatable, factory-built and movable? The first proof-of-concept room was built the same year.

One box, four modules

The design starts with a solid-timber box, 7 × 3 × 2.8 m, with about 19 m² inside. Jumper ONE uses one box; TWO joins two for 38 m². I designed both as Live and Studio versions. Live leaves the wood visible and adds acoustic treatment to the ceiling and one wall. Studio treats every surface.

For the Studio version I developed SARC, a room-correction system using tunable Helmholtz resonators. A patent attorney assessed it as patentable; filing is still planned. The intended building process is CNC joinery and workshop prefabrication, followed by delivery on a truck and placement by crane. Being able to move the room later is part of the design.

Prototypes

In 2024 three prototype builds of the acoustic interior went through a regional timber partner with CNC-precut framework, later five. They validated the design and the factory process. Along the way I built a parametric 3D configurator that computes surfaces, CLT volume and weight straight from the geometry, so a variant can be costed before it is drawn.

The platform

I built jumper.music in the first half of 2026 with Next.js and Convex. Room owners can offer spare time, and bands can book individual sessions or a regular weekly slot. Stripe Connect handles payment, with capture delayed until the owner confirms. The app supports German and English, and uses WorkOS for organisations and memberships.

Working on those bookings led to @mrfinch/booking. I extracted the engine and published it as a separate package so I could reuse and maintain it across projects. Jumper also has messaging, reviews and a ChatGPT app for finding studios.

For a band renting a room, unused time is a cost it could share. I want to make those hours bookable without maintaining a separate spreadsheet or chasing payment after every session.

Where it stands

The platform is live with the first studios listed. The module is costed, and the next step is a first pilot site. I also built RoomScout for Convex's All Gas hackathon to help bands find rooms that are already out there.
